Background: This Scholarship was created by Ted Butler in memory of his wife Pat Butler.  Pat Butler was a wife, a mom, and a grandmom.  She was a librarian before she started those fulltime careers.  She was a person, who survived bad odds in life and fought her way through them until a final one took her.  Pat survived being a 2.5 lb preemie, a teenager who had intestinal holes that kept her hospitalized most of one school year.  As an adult, she had two ectopic pregnancies, two bouts with Pancreatitus and finally fought a battle with rapid progression Parkinsons Disease.

She was a fighter, and it seems appropriate that a scholarship with her name on it should help other determined people make the world a better place.

Essay:

  •  detailing your educational goals (provisional or decided).  And tell us how, in the future, you plan to help others to overcome their obstacles.
  • describe the obstacles you have overcome.
